since Hitman 3 is just hours away, i'm gonna rank all the maps from the first 2 games in this thread:
14) Hawke's Bay

i know it's just a tutorial map but gosh it's small. i do like the trick of letting you decide when the target arrives, so you can spend as much time setting up traps as you want. not a lot going on here tho
13) Colorado

taking away any space to explore freely just kills the vibes sadly. it's also so flat that evasion and exploration aren't very interesting. some neat opportunities in here but it's way too punishing and convoluted to make replaying it much fun
12) Marrakesh

i think this is a more controversial placement but i just don't really like this map much. some very funny opportunities (the masseuse and the tv crew are great) but i don't love that there's this huge empty stretch in between 2 difficult fortresses
11) Bangkok

a very solid level but it's basically just Paris shrunk and split down the middle which sours it a tiny bit for me. still i think it's super fun to maneuver around, and the drummer opportunity is one of the best in the first game
10) New York

this map is actually really cool! it's just very small and a little too restrictive. it gave me a great lightbulb moment when i first figured out how to get into the back hallways off the lobby, and it has some super tense moments of pure physical stealth
9) Whittleton Creek

i honestly didn't care for this map at first but it really grew on me. it's small and navigation is pretty simplistic, but the way each house has its own secrets (and secret connections to each other!) is super cool
8) Santa Fortuna

this one gets lost a little bc the 2nd game has two way grander setpiece maps. i love how sprawling it is, how it's nevertheless incredibly dense with detail and hidden connections. it's Sapienza times ten, and it's only this low bc everything else is amazing
7) Haven Island

this one got super slept on! the way all the different targets weave together is so cool, and even the layout of the map itself is way more knotty than it first appears. it feels like a mix of a little bit of everything from the 2nd game, a fitting capstone
6) Paris

the most iconic map from the series for good reason. it's brilliant not just at teaching you how to approach the game, but in how its design lays the groundwork for the trilogy's big thematic concerns. everyone enacts power on the ppl one floor below them. genius!!!
5) Mumbai

to me this is the better version of Marrakesh. i still get lost in this map! it's also got the best mission stories of any map in the games, and probaby the most hilariously despicable target in Dawood Rangan. incredibly fun level
4) Isle of Sgail

i still get intimidated by this map. it's so imposing in its enormity, thrilling in its overbearing theatricality. it's like a whole map made out of the top level of Paris, where even the greatest wealth and power is subdivided and tiered. just so brilliant
3) Sapienza

everyone loves Sapienza! so many subsequent maps were inspired by it, but nothing tops it. all the action is localized to the mansion, yes, but it's incredible how it reaches its tendrils out into the streets and stores and piers and church. masterful shit
2) Miami

this has my favorite kill in any map, which i showed off on stream a lil while ago. it's constructed so cleanly that you don't even realize at first how massive it is. the way it gives you various ways to manipulate the outcome of the race is amazing. great shit
1) Hokkaido

the way disguises themselves become keys that unlock new areas is beyond brilliant, the perfect expression of what these games are about. the first time i found a crack in the security gave me a feeling i've never had before or since. made me fall in love with Hitman
there's a lot more i could say about all of these, if not for character limit. cannot wait for tomorrow morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
