This thread is amazing: I’m so happy that @SourPatches2077 decided to share some of her thoughts on #detrans https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619619459526656
Carol doesn’t feel entitled to men’s spaces. She acts with huge empathy and consideration for other people’s feelings, recognising that their needs come first. #detrans https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619624069025792
Carol respects the boundaries of the young man she is working with, and advocates for him to be provided with a male worker. Carol’s female socialisation means she can empathise with her charges #detrans https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619624920465408
The ‘uncanny valley’ effect of transition isn’t discussed enough. We’re supposed to believe that people ‘pass’ unnoticed. We should talk about *all* the possible outcomes of transition, including the negative impact it may have on our relationships.
This is not Carol’s fault, but having an opposite sex person observe one naked could be described as an institutional non-contact sex offence. https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619625813827584
In this situation, I do not believe a trans identifying man would be as reflective, or behave with the integrity that Carol did. Male socialisation seems not to equip many men with the ability to recognise young women as fully human https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619627554541568
It’s crazy that we’re in a situation where it’s remarkable to state that young people in mental distress should be able to enjoy their sex-based tights, including the right to appropriate sex segregation. https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619629110628353
*rights!

It’s clear that Carol’s character shines out. Young women trust that they are safe. How can they be expected to recover if they can’t access that feeling? https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619630012407809
An affirmation-only approach doesn’t leave the space to really consider how a transition affects the family, peer group, and wider society. We must be able to have these honest discussions https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619634437341184
Thank you for this amazing thread, Carol. I’m sure you’re an absolute credit to your profession. I hope you have the opportunity to help countless more young people! Integrity. Authenticity. Congruence. https://twitter.com/sourpatches2077/status/1351619638963040256
