I’m having a lot of complicated feelings about this one because Oracle means so damn much in terms of how SO MANY of us adjusted to using our chairs. We have so few characters THAT complex, fewer who are heroes, fewer who as sexy, and even fewer who get the ending they deserve.
Does it hurt to have one of the most important characters out there for great representation of wheelchair users, someone who means so much to me that she’s my phone’s wallpaper, cast w/ a non-chair user? Yeah.

Am I thrilled she’s being played by a disabled actor? Also yeah.
Selfishly, I hoped that we’d get a chair user to embody that for us. But it takes NOTHING away from the incredible stories we have for Babs (thanks @GailSimone!), and gives a whole new group of people a chance to share in the epicness that is Barbara Gordon.
But do I have some disappointment about not getting to see an authentic chair user kicking ass with escrimas and being the mastermind behind the Titans? Yeah. It feels like one of the very few good depictions we had as wheelchair users was taken away.
On the flip side, I am THRILLED that for the first time ever, we have an authentically disabled actor playing Babs, to have that representation on screen, and to have new stories with Oracle. This is a MAJOR cause for celebration, and I’m excited to see where she goes.
