January 6, 2020 - the official announcement: James Mangold reported to direct in the biopic starring Timothée, tentatively referred to as “Going Electric”. The film was also announced to be produced by Dylan’s longtime manager Rosen and executive produced by Dylan himself. It focuses on his 1965 controversial transition of embracing rock ‘n’ roll and was slated to begin filming in June 2020.
Mangold is a longtime Bob Dylan fan & already directed a film about an iconic musician with 2005’s Johnny Cash-June Carter “Walk the Line”. For “Going Electric”, he rewrote a script written by Jay Cocks
Prior to the January 2020 news, Timothée had already begun lessons to familiarize himself with both acoustic and electric guitar.

Timothée escapes to Woodstock, NY in Summer 2020 to a little cabin that, upon arrival, he discovers has a wall devoted to Dylan—to the albums he'd recorded in the run-up to his timeout in Woodstock in the late '60s. “The universe offered signs if you nudged it toward coherence.”
