(lol THREAD?) Jack is spot on here. I'm working on something i'm tentatively calling 'blended all-in-one' (BAIO): a standardized, weighted aggregation of multiple impact/RAPM-based models. it's not quite ready for showtime yet, but it can be used to address the below https://twitter.com/jrborman13/status/1351586393554907136
attached is a simple scatterplot of Timberwolves players by their BAIO net impact in points/100 possessions vs. the total number of minutes they've played this year, 0 is league average. Wolves have 4 guys above average and a TON of catastrophic players getting lots of minutes.
next up is the same thing but for the Grizzlies. Why the Grizz? Because they're similarly young and serve as a good comparison for this analysis. notice anything different? Memphis has a similar number of > avg players, but nowhere NEAR as many anchors.
here are both teams plotted together. long story short: the wolves have lots of guys getting significant minutes and 7 (!) of them are in 33rd percentile or worse in net impact.
finally, no one on the Grizz has to carry the anchor that is Anthony Edwards -- maybe the worst player in the NBA currently. he's somehow THIRD on the team in minutes and ranks in the SUB-1st PERCENTILE in BAIO. just astonishingly awful so far.
DLo and Beasley haven't been great, but they have been good enough. (Funny aside, DLo actually ranks as a much more impactful defender than Beasley by BAIO, though neither is above average). the issue remains that a majority of the talent on this roster is insufficient.
