I see we're in another hot take arms race on miltwitter. Since we've gone from "the real issue here is the Guard's close order drill" to "Marines haven't done anything for the past decade", let me just jump to the end.
You idiots all just lost two wars, the ranks contain an unknown number of at worst insurgents and at best window-licking morons, we continue to be plagued by suicides and rapes, morale is through the floor in every branch, and we're just generally adrift as an institution.
Don't make me choose between the professionalism of the branch that crashes into container ships, the branch with a revenge porn group somehow both secret and tens of thousands strong, or the branch still figuring out how many soldiers have been murdered and buried off post.
Every interservice pissing contest has one thing in common...appeals to history. While it's nice to know what it takes to get you all to study PME, I note that nobody has much to say about their own service despite it transcending two wars, ostensibly because we lost both.
So keep talking about Iwo Jima, or Normandy, or whatever historical battle. There are only pre-war years, war years, and post-war years, more war is coming. I hope when it does they fire as much of the OIF/OEF generation as it takes to find soldiers and Marines who can win a war.
