Fred Brison & the Brison scholarship
“Professor Fred R. Brison served the Texas A&M System first as County Extension Agent in San Saba County from 1921 to 1925. He became a member of the teaching staff of the Horticulture Department at Texas A&M in 1925.
He taught for 38 years and had over 8,000 students. He won every state, regional and national award available on teaching excellence. Teaching the Pecan Culture Course was the highlight of his career-the pecan was his first love,” (Texas Pecan Handbook).
Brison taught many of the pecan leaders of the nation to help make the industry what it is today.
Brison’s dedication to teaching and his legacy in pecans are continued through the Fred R. Brison Scholarship.
Through donations from the Texas Pecan Growers Association the Scholarship is presented annually to a Texas A&M University student in the Horticulture Department to help aid in their studies.
