This was a well-done rebuttal to Robinson's yimby post. Noah earnestly tries to understand and address the opposing argument, cites research not op-eds that agree with him, and doesn't engage in goofy straw-manning https://twitter.com/Noahpinion/status/1351574222867296262
The only thing @Noahpinion misses is that left-wing opposition to development is rooted fundamentally in community organizing and building power (i.e. a base of subsidized tenants), with opposition to top-down approaches. Moreso than the actual details of the economic impact.
This is largely why I believe Nathan J Robinson likes the preservationist movement because although not in the interests of tenants and the poor, it represents neighborhood organizing and control that leftists could use.
It's one of the reasons I like to showcase all the pro housing signs in my neighborhood supporting the BART station development. It's partially about refuting the idea that supporting housing abundance is just policy wonk and no community buy in, as there's actually plenty.
Also pulling out those tweets of yimby leaders from like 4 years ago saying that public housing is good and needed was hilarious.
The UCSF saga is another example:

YIMBY pov: You're building lots of publicly-built housing and a hospital, this is great. How can we assist?

Anti-development pov: Fine in concept, but we need to be consulted and have direct influence, that's the "community way."
