Right now, @WYLegislature Sen. Corporations Committee is discussing Senate File 16 on net-metering systems in #Wyoming. It can seem like it's a wonky utility bill, but in reality it could have a big impact on @WyoPSC, & residents who have installed small-scale #solar #energy 1/
The legislation repeals current net-metering laws & asks @WyoPSC to reassess it. In short, "no electric utility shall be obligated ... to compensate any customer‑generator for any electricity produced on a net metering system that is first operational on or after July 1, 2021

The bill up for debate today was born back in November. The corporations committee initially held a meeting to debate an entirely different bill that would have amended the net metering system in place in #Wyoming. In summary: lawmakers threw out that bill before public comment. Instead, a lawmaker introduced a new bill instead: Senate File 16. This bill would punt net-metering system reform to the @WyoPSC . @CSTribune 4/
A lot of public opposition to this bill: loss of jobs, great uncertainty for #renewable #energy. #Solar energy operators fear for the survival of their businesses. But Office of Consumer Advocates & big #utilities seem to be somewhat OK with it. @CSTribune 5/
Attempts to change the net-metering system for small scale #renewable owners in #Wyoming have happened multiple times in @WYLegislature (2003, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and now this year). The net-metering system was instituted in 2001. #renewables #solar #wind @CSTribune 6/
