You don't actually have to give someone credit for "no new wars" if their stance is borne out of nationalistic self-interest rather than any humanitarian impulse. This is especially true if this person increased drone strikes & removed all accountability for civilian casualties.
You might also deny giving "dove" credit to someone who gave the thumbs up to a genocide, laughed off the murder of a US journalist, pardoned war criminals, stopped admitting refugees to the U.S., stoked tensions w/ Iran, & gave Israel free reign to abuse Palestinians.
Also, maybe it's just me, but I kind of think that regardless of one's actions abroad, we should consider not giving them "dove" credit if they did things like 1. torture children, 2. inspire hate crimes, & 3. create domestic conflict that rose to the level of insurrection
And don't forget that the pardoning of war criminals isn't just immoral, it actually weakens already shaky relationships in the ME. The U.S. has faced *no* accountability for Iraq & the conviction of war criminals was widely seen by Iraqis as one tiny step. Well, goodbye to that.
