Since a ton of people say the offline vs online meta is different for Ultimate without explaining themselves I'm gonna show a super-clear example in a few tweets to make it easier for people to understand:
This is not meant to "hate" on Online, just to explain different metas
This is not meant to "hate" on Online, just to explain different metas
[OFFLINE]
Most forward rolls last about 29 frames.
If you're expecting your opponent to forward roll & you react to it: it will take 18-20 frames for the 1st frame of your attack to come out.
Most can punish with dash grab & quick attks before the roller can shield/spot dodge.

[ONLINE]
If you're expecting your opponent to forward roll and you react to it: it will take 22/23-25 frames for the 1st frame of your attack to come out.
This removes most grab and quick attack punishes if the opponent shields/spot dodges after the forward roll.

What this means is:
Offline: you can punish forward rolls you're expecting on reaction with grabs and quick attacks
Online: if you react to a roll you're expecting you pretty much have to guess what they're going to do AFTER the roll to punish it.

Having two completely different outcomes happen on a universal mechanic does change the meta. And that's just ONE mechanic. This also occurs on ledge trapping, advantage/disadvantage state etc.
Again, this set of tweets is not meant to "hate" on the Online meta. It's just to give one example as to why people say the two metas are different.
The Online Meta is here to stay and we must adapt to it in 2021 as live events aren't gonna be back for a bit.
