How ATL played defense under Raheem Morris ( @PFF):

C1 - 31.8%
C2 - 16.7%
C3 - 32.5%
C4 - 1.9%

Well, looks like the Rams are going to be making a shift to a single-high safety defensive structure deploying more C1/C3, and not the quarters style looks we seen from Brandon Staley.
I'm not sure what this means for the back end, as everything else will mostly be unchanged. Who plays single-high for this team? Don't think they really have that skillset in the safety room.

And this probably means, and I hate to say it, but JJ3 — I'll love you forever.
Hint hint:

Sean McVay and Raheem Morris overlapped both in Tampa Bay and Washington as coaches. They have a history and probably a relationship, as you can probably imagine.
Hard to say what I ultimately think of the move. Does Morris come here and install his own defenses? Does McVay ask him to adjust and try to keep the quarters-based structures we seen from Staley in place?

Iunno. We'll find all of that out at some point.
There are *some* similarities as to how the Rams/Falcons played defense. Both appeared to be similarly aggressive ( @PFF):

Blitz percentage:

ATL: 31.6%
LA: 29.1%

Stunt percentage:

ATL: 18.1%
LA: 17.7%

The massive difference:

Quarters:

ATL: 1.9% (31st)
LA: 24.8% (1st)
The one thing I legitimately worry about is Raheem Morris coming up under the tampa-2 defenses TB used to deploy. The Rams most certainly do not have a linebacker capable of covering deep zones like that.

So unless they plan on investing at that spot....
Bottom line RE: Raheem Morris — Brandon Staley utilized his two best players on defense and built the rest of it out based on their abilities, helping lighten the load for lesser-talented players.

If Morris can/is willing to do the same, they'll be successful.
