Watch online Labourites dismiss the evidence as to the embourgeoisement of
& the proletarianisation of the Tories as confounded by age despite mean age of red-wall seats being 41 & the crossover age, when someone is more likely to vote Tory, dropping 8yrs to 39 at the last GE https://twitter.com/GoodwinMJ/status/1351588071876272130

Over the course of the past two decades centre-left parties have, in general, declined all across Western Europe. So clearly there are larger trends at play here than just Corbyn, Brexit or even our housing market.
If I was going to recommend Labourites read one book at the moment in order to gain the wider perspective that is necessary (not that Im suggesting reading one book is sufficient or even that reading books is in of itself sufficient) it would Rob Ford’s ‘Brexitland.’
This is an important piece of information that Labourites need to digest too https://twitter.com/JamesRDennison/status/1351177842864873472?s=20
Tbf to Keir Starmer I think he does understand this. He’s savvy & a professional unlike his amateurish predecessor. Note how he’s keen to reach out to the group Rob Ford describes as ‘identity-conservatices’ via the display of his patriotic bona fides in the last few weeks/months
Starmer knows
is never gonna win a culture-war. Hence his dropping of pledges to retain
FoM & any plans to rejoin
, hence his willingness to be sat in front of a Union Jack, hence his enthusiasm for the Royal family, hence his articulation of trad Xtian values @ Xmas

But do the the majority of the party he’s leading understand this? I have my doubts & thats Starmers real problem. I think a large chunk of the PLP are not up to the job at hand & I think a large chunk of the membership live in cloud cuckoo-land.
Starmer is clearly willing to try & appeal to social/cultural conservatives bc he knows he cant win otherwise but I think his party - the PLP, the membership AND the wider lib-left-leaning/aligned media-landscape & clerisy - will undermine him every step of the way.
He is a like a football manager who has inherited a terrible squad from the previous incumbent but without the means to get rid of them in the transfer market.
Put simply: the task for Tony Blair 1994-97 was to position Labour in the centre of the left-right part of the political spectrum, the task for Keir Starmer 2020-24 is to position himself & his party in the centre of the liberal-authoritarian part of the political spectrum.
I get the very strong impression that he understands this but do the rest of his party?
& tbf to Starmer again, he’s actually looking to position the party in the centre not just in respect to on social/cultural stuff (the stuff that pertains to the lib-auth part of the political spectrum) but also on the economic left-right part of the political spectrum too
Not soft this lad Starmer. The Conservatives shouldn't under-estimate him, despite all the challenges he’s gonna face from his own side undermining him.
This is the prob with online Labourites. Know-it-alls who dont listen

I find them really annoying. There are very few who I dont.
Is this *just* about ‘embourgeoisement’? No, obvs not, but is it *part* of the story, yes.
