Today had a great example of why I am headed out of schools. Today a boy refused to get changed for PE and wanted to do his own thing while other children were getting changed. As I am still honestly in... schooly mood I insisted on not letting him do other things.
.... "can't make an exception!" (even though we are much smaller group right now). He got fed up and kicked off. I took him somewhere else as he was truly yelling "I don't like PE!!" I did my best to not emotionally react and he eventually said.
"too many instructions, Miss telling me what to do too much."

And I honestly couldn't fault him. This is NOT a dig at the PE teacher. It's a dig at the fact that most of us accept and reinforce this rarely spoken idea that
education requires adults telling children being told what to do and when every second of the day. Or that children's free time is somehow wasted. It isn't. Believing otherwise is part and parcel of some depressingly narrow views of ourselves and humanity.
I have a lot to learn and unlearn but I am glad I didn't force the issue and coworkers found a good option for him instead.

Gee I am in a real ranty mood tonight.
