One very under-discussed problem of the filibuster is that it orients Congress towards taxing and spending issues, and away from all other questions, like democracy reform. The former can go through budget reconciliation, the latter can't.
Majorities naturally focus on what they can get done, so they focus where budget reconciliation can work. You can shoehorn a lot into budget rec, but not everything. Crucial issues like democracy reform are sidelined, because why focus on a bill that you know can't pass?
The key question in congress is what gets prioritized. That decision often isn't being made based on what's most important, or needed. It's being made based on the technical considerations of a bizarre loophole to get around the filibuster.
