for unity. He did this because he refuses to accept any criticism from or engage in a dialogue with those constituents who disagree with him. As justified criticism from #NJ04 folks poured in & the media started to key in on Smith’s trafficking in antifa conspiracy theories
Smith shut as much of it down as he could in the hopes that the media would let this go & he could continue to pretend to be a “bipartisan leader.” Make no mistake, he is nothing of the sort & hasn’t been for many years. He is a profile in complicity, cowardice, & cowering.
This is what NJ gets from the Dean of its Congressional delegation, the longest serving member from NJ EVER, the 3rd most senior member in the entire House in his 21st term & 40th year. A complete abdication of responsibility. A lack of any desire to lead & unite. Only a desire
to hide and cower. A Rep so afraid of his own party’s base & his constituents that he has chosen to permanently put up an out of office message to start his 21st term. This is wholly unsurprising. He hasn’t held a public town hall in 28 years. We deserve so much more in NJ-04.
