Today there will be a Covid-19 Memorial at Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Communities around the country will join in by lighting up buildings, ringing church bells, and placing candles in windows of homes at 5:30 p.m.
Memorials have been popping up all over the world for months. Here are a few around the U.S.:
Detroit Memorial Day was a drive-through that featured large photos of the city’s coronavirus victims. Relatives of the victims could tune into a local radio station which played gospel music & where they announced the names of the dead. 📷: Aaron J Thornton
In Atlanta, Loved Ones, Not Numbers created a wall of hearts each representing a person who died from the virus, outside the National Center For Human Rights. 📷: Audra Melton
After observing neighbors continuing to socialize and not wear masks, Austin sculptor Shane Reilly began placing flags in his yard representing each life lost to the virus in the state of Texas, as a way for others to visualize the loss of life.
