Explicit fanfiction is generally written by adults and meant for other *consenting* adults to read.
It is no different, morally-speaking, than safe, sane, and consensual sexual roleplay behind closed doors.

A fic can contain the deadest of dead dove content, but as long as it is clearly labeled, the act of reading is the same as giving consent to be exposed to said material.
This also applies to clicking on fics for which the author âchose not to use archive warningsâ, by the way! That alone is a warning that there may be upsetting untagged content therein. Approach with caution!
If a reader personally finds the content distasteful or even morally abhorrent, they donât have to grant consent by clicking on the fic. If they read it anyway, they may revoke their consent at any time; this is done by exiting the browser window or hitting the back button.
Moreover, the creation and consuming of this kind of content does not automatically mean the creators and consumers agree with whatâs happeningâin fact, usually quite the opposite.
Fiction is a safe way for writers and readers to explore concepts they find horrifying irl. Fictional characters are not real people and cannot be harmed. They do not exist.
As stated in this qrtâd thread, if someone DOES get turned on by actual, real-world atrocities... https://twitter.com/EmilyDWarfield/status/1351218982540480515

In conclusion, actively take steps to avoid the content you donât want to see. Revoke consent as necessary by exiting the fic.
