an illustration of how extreme income inequality has become:
but let's discuss how a $15 minimum wage would endanger the economy
important to keep in mind how workers of apple's subsidiaries & suppliers in china and elsewhere are exploited to keep that profit margin high
thanks @marxismbasedism for showing me this, pls give them a follow ❤️
notice it says a $403,000 dividend ON TOP of salary. a dividend is the distribution of part of a company's profits to shareholders; in a worker coop all workers would hold shares (be owners).currently those dividends go largely to high executives & big investors/invest. companies
if you're interested in cooperative structures, check out my app project ( @ZER0_App - almost done) which i want to make into a democratically owned social media platform

again: looks like this is ONLY for apple corp. (seat in cupertino, CA), would be a powerful illustration to have someone calculate how much all workers across the supply chain (including foxconn workers in china) could earn if profits would be distributed among them too
also note that the article is from 2014, earnings-per-share (& net income) have gone up significantly by now https://www.statista.com/statistics/267728/apples-net-income-since-2005/
*apple inc. not apple corp.
number of employees has gone up too (147k in 2020; subsidiaries included), the current number would be (with $57.41B net income): a little over $390'000 per person in 2020
it takes time for those additional employees to translate into higher earnings; let's just assume for the sake of it that they had gotten to that net income with the previous number of employees (98k), each person would get close to $600k!
using last year's income, this would mean $85,500 additional income if profits would be shared equally across the whole supply chain. this is massive considering the typical chinese foxconn worker earns abt $4,700 per year, & other workers (eg in africa) earning considerably less https://twitter.com/left_shitposter/status/1351596823840841731
this would basically catapult abt 1 million workers overseas into the 'wealthy' class in their respective countries
keep in mind this is just income, imagine if ownership was equally distributed as well!
if you did that with the total value of amazon, every employee would be a multimillionaire https://twitter.com/delmoi/status/1351620255840407552
interesting fact: iphones would still be produced if apple inc was a coop
how to quickly do this calculation with any company:

1) go on their wikipedia page

2) find the section on the info table with the net income and the number of employees

3) divide the net income by the number of employees & you get the amt each employee would receive in a coop
*would receive 'on top' of their salary

*in a coop which is structured so every employee receives the same amount (different models exist here, you could have a coop in which management receives a little more, etc.)

*coop workers can choose to reinvest profits to grow or other

this idea that only a traditional & competitive company produces innovation is tiresome, not least because some of the most important inventions (internet, touchscreen, gps, etc) that enabled apple to create great products were developed by tax funded research teams/organizations https://twitter.com/livinginthe8_20/status/1351703971145117700
same applies here. also imagine what all that money invested in marketing could be spent on if companies didn't have to compete as much for every bit of market share https://twitter.com/8199w199/status/1351675598846926848
