I’ve seen a lot of debate about GB’s 2020 draft, & how it was “good” since they planned for the future while also knowing their contention window was open. WRONG!
Nothing is promised from year to year in the most physically demanding sport out there. Drafting players on team
Friendly contracts that expire after 3-4 years.. why would you casually chop off a year of that contract by drafting players you didn’t intend to play in 2020... The Jordan Love & AJ Dillon picks could have been used for contributing players to their roster in 2020 and beyond.
Essentially they lit 💰 & draft capital on 🔥 this year, saying that they wanted to get out ahead early on 2021? Do they not realize there’s a 2021 NFL draft? In the NFL, when you’re a contender, draft guys that can help you every year of their rookie contract. I understand Aaron
Jones is a FA after the season, so AJ Dillon can potentially replace him. But, they could have just drafted a 2021 RB to replace him. If they really were afraid of a young RB struggling to start 2021 and maybe costing them a game (think JT’s rough start to 2020), then at least
Give AJ Dillon more reps in 2020 to help him get over whatever this phantom worry is about RBs adjusting. I don’t know where I’m going with this, other than there is ZERO excuse for wasting a year of a player on a rookie contract. No. Excuse. GB has played incredibly well this
Year, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t draft inefficiently. They did. Horribly inefficient. Anyone care to justify the math of grabbing players a year early on a fixed-year contract that doesn’t get extended an extra year just because the guy didn’t play much as a rookie?!
