Vladimir Guerrero Jr - A Thread:
I've heard a lot of people wondering what this weight loss that Vlad Jr. has undergone will ACTUALLY do for his production. The fact is, we have already seen it.

This weight loss was actually happening gradually during the 2020 season (1/8)
Guerrero revealed during the shutdown that he really let himself go and had been solely relying on his god-given talent, & not putting in the necessary work to be great. Over the course of the season, Vlad Jr. shed 32 pounds This seems to have carried over to Vladdy's play (2/8)
Through the season’s first 21 games, he slashed .222/.292/.383 with four doubles and three homers, while over the remaining 39 contests, he hit .286/.351/.507 with nine doubles, two triples, and six homers. Would he have been able to leg out two triples at 282 lbs? (3/8)
The dramatic shift in Guerrero Jr's. profile does not seem to be an accident. Guerrero Jr. was quoted as saying, "At the start of the season my swing was too slow. Then when I dropped 20 pounds, my body felt much better, and the hands felt quicker.” (4/8)
Vlad Jr's weight loss seemed to create a more athletic-looking version of himself. This did not seem to just impact his power and bat-speed, but also his batting stance, swing path, plate coverage, and overall athleticism. (5/8)
This was one of Vlad Jr.'s swings on Opening Day against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Notice what seems to be very stiff, upright, and for a lack of a better word, a "hack" of a swing at this offering from Charlie Morton.

This was from the Regular Season Finale vs the Orioles.

You can tell Vlad Jr. is more comfortable here vs Keegan Akin. By playing at a lighter weight, his swing seems to be more dynamic. The increased athleticism allows for more plate coverage, adjustability, & bat speed.
