Upopular Opinions//Black Church Edition:

1. The African American Church composed of enslaved black people and freemen was and should be considered as the persecuted church in the 18th-early 20th century.
2. Prosperity teaching in the black church definitely arose as a result of capitalism and the depletion of black wealth via terrorism.
3. The notion that black people coils never come together or unite is false. The black church was the driving force of unification during the reconstruction era, Renaissance, and of course the civil rights era...

This leads me to my next point.
4. Present day black church is not totally indifferent about injustice. There’s definitely been infiltration of greed and love of power. However, there’s a form of trauma that’s attached to civil rights. The church’s leaders (who did not sell out) were nearly all assassinated.
*Let #4 sink in*

5. Our elders, as messed up as they left stuff — need just as much grace as they do criticism and accountability. These people were trying to serve Jesus, survive the klan, and navigate in a country whose government was trying to systemically kill them off..
