Today the topic that is trending on many Social media platforms are the indiscretions of the former Archbishop of the church of Uganda. https://observer.ug/news/headlines/68208-archbishop-stanley-ntagali-suspended-from-church-over-adultery . Here is a thread of my thoughts.
#1 For a man who chose morality as a yard stick to side-line those whose life styles did not meet his golden standard of morality. This proves that he and those like him do so because of the male privilage and an attempt to maintain a status quo that favors them
#2 Many policy processes in the MoH pertaining to issues like women’s health, sexuality education and FP are subject to approval of religious leaders. If these leaders can’t be trusted to regulate their own bodies how can we entrust them with the wellbeing of Uganda’s women
3. Those defending him whilst shaming his female counterpart have once again shown that women are treated and judged by a different and harsher standard to their male counterparts. Even when the man of the cloth has an extra-marital affair, it is the woman’s fault
