I’m not a teacher, a parent of school/nursery age children or a union member. I’m a dr & have worked throughout the #pandemic & have seen #COVID19 up close. As you know it can result in significant illness, hospital admission, death or cause #LongCovid. 1/10

This isn’t a disease we should want ANYONE to catch.
Thankfully v few kids are seriously affected but they are getting #LongCovid.
Currently across all healthcare settings
numbers of previously fit, younger ppl need care/being admitted w/ severe #COVID19, some have died. 2/

This is what we understand about risk in various indoor & outdoor settings

Spending long periods in crowded, indoor settings w/out good ventilation & few masks is V HIGH RISK.
Current disease prevalence remains v high, despite recent promising slightly lower case numbers.

School/early years staff aren’t adequately protected. Children & the families of both are inadequately protected from a v nasty disease that we have a #vaccine for.
Why would anyone want to send children & adults into such a HIGH RISK ENVIRONMENT when the rollout has begun?6/

You’re actively encouraging us to put the lives of so many others at risk. Of course the education, physical/mental health of kids all matter, but not at the cost of others’ lives.

We need to focus on achieving #SafeEdForAll by making #schools & #earlyyears SAFE. The sooner it’s done, the sooner they can open their doors to all children again.
Failing to do so is like sending the men to clear the radioactive rubble from the roof in #Chernobyl. 8/

To me that is unethical, unacceptable & unforgivable.
Please use your platform to demand change for the staff, children & families that make up the school & #earlyyears communities, changes that which will save lives & ultimately benefit us all.
