Thread: Tonight’s game against Chelsea marks the first time Leicester City have played on 19 January three years in a row.
The day @duffyeva and I got married (19 January 2019), Leicester lost 4-3 at Wolves. On our first anniversary, Leicester lost 2-1 at Burnley. I couldn’t help but notice a pattern emerging.
So I thought I’d get Of Fossils and Foxes out and check if 19 January, a very special day for me, has actually been a cursed one for my football club...
1901: Leicester Fosse lose 2-0 at home to Lincoln in front of around 2,000 fans.

This came in the midst of 9 games without a win until a 3-2 victory over Newton Heath (pictured). Whatever happened to them...?
1907: Leicester Fosse draw 2-2 at home to Leeds City in front of around 8,000 fans.

Harry Wilcox, one of the goalscorers, finished top scorer with 14 goals in 35 games.
1918: Fosse lose 4-2 at home to Leeds City in front of around 3,000 fans.

World War 1 was still 10 months from ending and many guest players featured on both sides including goalscorer Alex Donaldson of Bolton and Scotland, who began his career at Leicester-based club Belgrave.
1924: Leicester City lose 4-3 at Crystal Palace.

Arthur Chandler, in his first season with Leicester, scored one of his record 273 goals for the club.

This was one of the last games played at The Nest (pictured) before Palace move to Selhurst Park 7 months later.
1929: Leicester City’s first win on 19 January at the 5th attempt, a 2-0 win over Liverpool in front of 21,764 fans at Filbert Street.

Ernie Hine scored twice, his 32 goals in 35 games helping Leicester to second in Division 1, the second-highest finish in the club’s history.
1935: Leicester City lose 5-0 at Aston Villa.

Villa’s Welsh forward Dai Astley scored a hat-trick and later went on to manage Inter Milan.

Leicester were relegated from the top flight at the end of the season along with Tottenham Hotspur.
1946: The only previous time Leicester City have played Chelsea on this day in history, a 4-0 defeat.

This loss came seven days after a 7-1 home defeat to... Chelsea.
1952: Leicester City win 3-1 at Brentford with Arthur Rowley scoring all three.

Rowley broke Arthur Chandler’s record for goals in one season, a record he would break twice more in the next six years.
1957: Leicester beat Bristol Rovers 7-2 at Filbert Street.

Arthur Rowley, Derek Hines and Tommy McDonald all scored twice for Leicester.

While Rowley went on to manage various clubs, Hines owned a post office in Leicestershire and McDonald worked on the Forth Bridge toll booth
1972: Leicester City overcome Wolves 2-0 in an FA Cup 3rd round replay.

Either side of these cup ties, Leicester beat famous 70s sides Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
1974: Leicester City 5 Ipswich Town 0

Frank Worthington scores a hat-trick and ends the season with 20 league goals.

Another 1-0 away win at Leyton Orient on the final day (pictured) saw Leicester win Division 2.
1991: Leicester City lose 1-0 at West Ham United.

While the Hammers were promoted that season, Leicester needed Tony James’s close-range finish to defeat Oxford on the final day and prevent relegation to the third tier.
2000: Leicester end three and a half hours of goalless FA Cup 4th round football by beating Arsenal 6-5 on penalties.

Leicester’s penalty scorers: Gunnlaugsson, Savage, Fenton, Elliott, Campbell and Heskey

City won 3 out of 3 shootouts that season, Gunnlaugsson scoring in all 3
2002: Leicester draw 0-0 at home to Newcastle en route to relegation from the Premier League

This was the last ever goalless draw at Filbert Street.
2008: Leicester draw 0-0 at Norwich.

This was one of 7 goalless draws that season, with the final one on the last day at Stoke relegating Leicester to the third tier for the first time in the club’s history.
2009: Leicester City win 2-0 at Yeovil Town with goals from Steve Howard and Joe Mattock.

This was the mid-point of a 23-game unbeaten run that ended with defeat at Tranmere in mid-March, Leicester’s first league loss since October.
2019: Leicester City lose 4-3 at Wolves to a last-minute Diogo Jota goal.

This was Harvey Barnes’s full league debut for Leicester, just over 2 years after his Champions League debut for the club at Porto, another defeat in which Jota scored.
2020: Leicester City lose 2-1 at Burnley.

Burnley had lost 5 games in a row prior to this win, aided by Nick Pope’s penalty save from Jamie Vardy.
Leicester’s overall record on 19 January is W8 D3 L8. Fingers crossed for the 9th win tonight...
