South Wales Police are attempting to manipulate and intimidate Cardiff's trans community into providing them good PR in this moment where they rightfully being challenged for the murder of Mohamud Hassan.
We will NEVER sit down and break bread with South Wales Police. EVER. They are trying to destroy the solidarity between the trans community and racial justice groups and they will NOT succeed.
Here's some background.
Last year a group of trans people got together to write an open letter to @PrideCymru regarding the inclusion of cops in pride. We had a very simple demand: to stop uniformed cops from marching in the parade. That was it.

In good faith we agreed to talk to Pride Cymru to further explain our position. We left the meeting feeling that we had been heard, however the Pride Cymru member of staff said they would go and talk to the police about it.
The next thing we knew, Glitter Cymru and what was then SWTN Mutual Aid got a bizarre letter from South Wales Police saying that they couldn't understand why we hated them so much. I forgot to mention that in the open letter we listed many examples of SWP's brutality
towards members of the LGBTQ community and people of colour in South Wales specifically. In their response, SWP demanded that we reveal the details of who the victims were of those cases so they could "investigate".
One of the cases listed was Christopher Kapessa, who the police clearly knew about.
In the meantime, SWTN had helped support a protest at the Senedd. I got a very strange phone call from SWP asking me to pass on the details of the people organising. I refused.

There was another protest at the Senedd that day, a trade union protest. I asked the person running that one if he got a similar call. He said no.
After a few weeks SWTN responded with a short letter saying, firstly, we and Glitter Cymru were two of many signatories so they had no business emailing us, and secondly that we had no interest in engaging with them because we didn't want to be re-traumatised by them.
That response was sent in mid November 2020. This morning, 19th Jan 2021, we got another letter, this time from Jenny Gilmer, "Temporary Deputy Chief Constable". In it, our set boundaries were pushed and she said she wanted to "explain the recent significant developments that we
have made in the area of equality and diversity."
This statement comes just over a week after her officers murdered Mohamud Hassan.
I can speak for the rest of the old SWTN team when I say it made us feel physically sick with anger and quite honestly intimidation.

They know that our team has been loud on social media about Mohamud Hassan's murder, they know we know. This letter is sinister and morally bankrupt.
What the fuck is the Deputy Chief Constable doing writing letters to random tiny trans organisations when her officers stand accused of beating a man to death?
This is a clear attempt to manipulate and intimidate and pit marginalised groups against each other and it will NOT WORK.
