The utter ignominy of having one of our warships holding the frame of a kitschy World Market-esque gift shop should serve as an eternal reminder of the wages of unearned hubris.

The lesson? The Brits were just better trained and the Shannon was exactly the wrong ship because its CO was a fanatic for training. Did they land a lucky shot very early in the battle? Sure as hell. Did they make their own luck by being better trained? Also, sure as hell.
