Equalization argument is a red herring. Equalization is funded out of federal taxes paid by all Canadians. It represents about 14% of federal programme budget. Feds raise bulk of that tax revenue from Ontario and QC. Alberta doesn’t “pay” equalization, 2/ https://tj.news/story/101463027?ref=tw&tjid=8713&date=1611055376557
2. Albertans pay federal taxes on same basis as all Canadians. At best it could be argued that 14% of what Albertans pay in federal taxes is spent on equalization. 3/
3. Some will argue that AB gets a lot of that back in form of fed spending in AB & on oil & gas subsidies like multi-billion dollar purchase of pipelines & future investment in TMX. Alberta needs to get serious about diversification away from ff development. Writings on the wall.
