The past few days on the TL have shown that a lot of consenting adults don't understand what consent is.
A thread.

1. Consent is clear. It is not ambiguous and is expressed verbally. Consent can never be implied.
The absence of a "no" does not mean yes.
And a "no" does not mean a yes.

2. Consent is given by a coherent person. People who are asleep, drunk, drugged, incapacitated or vulnerable in any other way are not coherent enough to give consent.
3. Willingness. Consent is given willingly and must never be obtained:
- under pressure
- under duress
- under threat
- through coercion
- through manipulation
- through physical violence
- through nefarious means (e.g getting someone drunk, drugged etc)

4. Consent is ongoing. It must be granted every time. Just because a person gave consent today does not mean it is valid tomorrow.
Consent is specific. Someone may consent to vaginal penetration but not anal. Consent must be obtained with each step of physical intimacy,
