Behind every single death statistic is a very real and very human tragedy. Real people, with real lives and real families. Nobody should ever forget this. https://twitter.com/itvwales/status/1351452613510909952
And (recognising that this article doesnât do it), the throwaway phrase of âthey had underlying health conditionsâ is just misleading.
Many of the âunderlying health conditionsâ that may or may not be contributory are mild, controlled and do not affect day to day living.

A touch of asthma, a bit of blood pressure, a heart attack 10 years ago and after a stent they were back playing golf, well controlled diabetes - in fact, thereâs not many over 50s these days who donât have an âunderlying health conditionâ. The statistics often miss this reality.
And conversely, one can have all of the âunderlying medical conditionsâ without knowing because youâve never seen a GP. Just because thereâs nothing documented, it doesnât mean thereâs nothing there.
