I have a real gripe with the phrase ‘Wrestling owes you nothing’. It might just be a turn of phrase but i think it breeds this attitude that stops people from asking legitimate questions and getting people to just accept that this is how things are in wrestling.
If you buy a product. The product owes you the right for it to work as advertised. If it doesn’t, do you just accept that it doesn’t work because it owes you nothing?
Wrestling owes you LOADS!
Wrestling owes you the right to be trained competently. It owes you the right to adequate welfare facilities. Separate changing rooms. The right to negotiate your wage with a promoter and not just accept whatever they can afford.
It owes you the right to feel safe and to know there are strong procedures in place if something happens. It owes you first aid trained staff on shows and whilst training. The option to change school without prejudice.
Wrestling doesn’t owe you success, but it does owe you a hell of a lot.
