the first thing I want to discuss is this misconception of Mikasa being Eren obsessed. Eren helped her awaken her Ackerman power. He saved her from being kidnapped & most likely s*x trafficked, due to the rarity of her race, she grew to be strong.
From this situation, being at her lowest point, Mikasa is welcomed by Eren and Grisha to be apart of their family. Mikasa just lost everything important to her: family and childhood home. Grisha gave her a hand when she needed it most. And Eren a friend to lean on.
The Yeagers became Mikasa’s second chance at a family. When Carla died this changed Mikasa’s world for a second time. The world is cruel, something she knew all too well. Leaving her with only Eren left as a “family”.
Because of this overwhelming loss in her life Mikasa, awakening of her power, it made Mikasa become strong. Not just for herself or Eren, but later Armin and the rest of the scouts. When she finds out Eren dies she does not lose her will to live. She fights to protect the rest!
this foundation was important to talk about btw. a lot of people misinterpret this part of Mikasa. But, after Eren does die in the early part of the story Mikasa realizes:
if Eren is gone she will live with the memories & protect her loved ones. Ultimately Life is beautiful.
if Eren is gone she will live with the memories & protect her loved ones. Ultimately Life is beautiful.
Mikasa has gone through so much pain as a character losing her family: TWICE. Losing Eren in the beginning & coming to terms with having to be the one to stop him. A world that has been so cruel to her, Mikasa still chooses to fight for it. Fighting for life despite the pain.
My favorite part of Mikasa as a character is how she has gone through all of this, yet still finding her life worth living & the world is beautiful. She has an incredible sense of empathy, saving people who are her enemies too.
Many people consider Mikasa a cold hearted person, while on the surface she can seem that way. Mikasa really isn’t that. She cares for people so deeply, scared to open herself up for loss. Even when she is hurt she cares for those around her.
