Since Esu is gaining more popularity on the socials, let’s talk about how due to religious imperialism in Nigeria, they decided to link Esu to Satan. Esu is not Satan.

Linking traditional divinities to Christian demons is spiritual warfare and religious genocide.
Esu is not a devil, a demon or anything related to Christianic frameworks.

This all happened because of the translation done by Samuel Ajayi Crowther, a Nigerian linguist and the first bishop. In his Yoruba to English dictionary. He translated Satan to Esu.
With the rise of Islam & Christianity, this has led for Esu to be translated as Satan in Yoruba Bibles continuously.

Esu acts at the will of the Creator. He is not Satan. And the slander against one of most important divinities in the Orisha traditional religion is a shame.
And for it to be done by a Nigerian, is even more of a shame. If anyone around you ever refers to Esu as a devil, Satan, whomever—tell them with that not only are they incorrect, but they contribute to the oppression of traditional religions on the continent.
It’s important as we get to experience more of Esu’s energy that we recognize the unjust ways he’s treated in the place of his origins.

Priests work tirelessly day in day out to protest and speak out against the incorrect information that has spread due to Christianity.
Do not let people tell you who your gods are. Do not let people tell you that your divinities are demons. Do not let people try to bury practices carried by our ancestors. From oppressors to self-hating individuals, do not let them.

Religious brainwashing has to stop.
