You can build a business from superfans only

People underestimate the power of 100 fans and overestimate the power of 1000 followers

@Tim_Denning said it beautifully:
“Followers are vanity metrics for deeply insecure people”

5 steps to find your smallest audience possible

👇
0/ Find your minimum viable audience

The smallest potential group that you must serve to maintain your business plan and make sure it survives. In other words, it is the minimum number of people you have to serve for the livelihood of your business.
1/ Try Not to Become a Person of Success. Rather, Become a Person of Value

Every corner of the planet can be reached. Make it worth the effort. Nobody likes to read crap content. Make sure your content is appealing and above all: valuable.

Nobody beats you at being you.
1/ Get practical

⭕️ Write a Twitter thread every day for 30 days. This will change your life.
⭕️ Provide a Quora answer each day.
⭕️ Take time to genuinely respond to the writers of the content you consume.
2/ Study the Needs and Likes of Your Audience

Writing often feels like a black box.

Seasoned writers tell me — don’t focus on the outcome, but on the output. You can’t control the impact of your work, but you can control your output. Stubborn as I am, I want to know more.
2/ Get practical

Without knowing, it’s hard to say something valuable about your audience. Let me tell you one thing: knowing what resonates with your audience and what doesn’t, isn’t hard:

⭕️ Analyze stats
⭕️ Measure engagement
⭕️ Ask your audience what they think
3/ Make People Feel Heard

Tell people you appreciate their support, ask them questions, make them feel heard. Ask them about the projects they work on. Don’t look for ways to be interesting, focus on becoming interested in the stories of others.

A true, modern-day superpower.
3/ Get practical

⭕️ Practice a daily habit of reaching out to other creators
⭕️ Use tools like Calendly to easily set up calls with other creators - a true time-saver
⭕️ Give back. Through your blog post, your personal website, your Twitter-feed. Give more than you take in
4/ We Each Have Two Ears and One Mouth

We need to listen more. Take in all feedback and improve your product.

Always be appreciative of your fans, because you’re lucky to have them.

Starting with a minimum viable audience allows you to create relationships from the get-go.
4/ Get practical

⭕️ Make it a conscious habit to respond to every direct message or comment. If this feels like a burden to you, you should ask yourself if building an audience is truly what you want to do.
⭕️ You shouldn’t ever take engagement for granted.
5/ Do Not Hold Back on What You Can Offer.

Provide more quality stuff, encourage others to step up their game, or help them push through. Engage more and create valuable connections with others.

The least, you can do is treat every single person in your audience as a friend.
5/ Get practical

⭕️ Assuming you’re an expert in something, you can teach others. Bundle your lessons in a free e-book or template, and share this.
⭕️ Reach out to starting creators and give them advice on their work. Such a genuine interaction can make someone’s day for sure.
