As we prep to celebrate @KamalaHarris historic moment, plz reflect on the Black women in your sphere. Many of us are elevated into position w people who aren't ready to be lead by a Black woman. The work load is unreal, the resources scarce, the expectations high, & the backlash.
We get put into positions where we have to show up as the leaders you expect, not necessarily the leaders we are. We have to prove ourselves regularly & aren't often afforded grace to learn through experimentation and mistakes. Our minds have to be in multiple places concurrently
We have to deal w overt & covert racism, do constant in time cost benefit analysis of our thoughts, actions, words, tone, expressions- our everything. While unlearning our own trained responses to toxic racism, like code switching, we're expected to teach others.
We have to make & share space in the small sidewalk square we're on. We have to show up, smiling on Zoom calls & moving work, sometimes in the face of macro aggressions. Black women have deep work trauma & yet, we're making moves. Every Black woman I know has an #inspite of story
We are brilliant. We are resilient. We are triumphant. We are carriers of beloved community. We are vibrant. We carry care in our culture, royalty in our DNA. We are the #inspiteof people. We are contributors to joy, hope, audacity. We are worthy of dignity simply by being.
Celebrate @KamalaHarris but there's a star in ur own midst too, I'm sure. #VPE will already be carrying the weight of world on her shoulders but remember she is human w an enormous job. Check your grandiose expectations of what Black women should be doing. But watch her soar.
