Roughly speaking, tomorrow we will see some unexceptionable pardons, some abusive pardons, and some possibly illegal pardons. In the first category is persons who have gone through the established channels (as all convicts did before Trump)and shown "acceptance of responsibility
for the crime and established good conduct for a significant period of time after" and for whom there is no suggestion of special favors or string-pulling by Trump cronies. 2) The second category will be people whose pardons are unrelated to a valid public purpose and represent
Trump's caprice or favoritism. 3) the 3rd category will comprise, should they happen, a) a self-pardon; b) a quid pro quo pardon; or c)a blanket pardon issued for eg any and all crimes. All 3 in this category have their defenders, but the better view for each is they are illegal.
