Someone tried to claim that the Government isn't keeping anyone poor.
Those of us on Disability for example would like a word.

"You can have $482500 in assets".
No one is saving that much when we can only earn $178 a fortnight because losing fucking $0.50 per dollar after that.
If you didn't have assets before, you sure as hell have no hope of getting them now.

I have lost money from my DSP for earning scholarships, specifically, ones to help Disabled people.
How is that levelling the playing field if we get punished for getting the help?
How does putting us on Indue cards which limit where can buy, often resulting in paying higher costs due to the places we are limited to, meaning the money won't go as far, help to anyone? Definitely can't save on that!
Even Paid Parental leave is classified as income and will affect Disability payments.
Any lump sums (so monetary gifts from family, selling possessions, etc) can result in payments being cut/reduced.
But sure, the goverment isn't keeping us poor.
"The government can't afford to pay you more".
Where did I ask them to pay us more? I didn't.
The restrictions they put in place to prevent us from even getting a little ahead are a huge issue. That should definitely be a focus.
Dude keeps moving the goalposts.
"you said it was saving restrictions, now you're saying it's earning restrictions".
Mate, they go hand in hand. Can't save if you can't earn enough to save and can't earn more if there are savings restrictions.
Poor mite doesn't understand how assets work.
An asset limit of $400k doesn't mean on can save/earn $400k. That means they can only have property/savings up to that limit.
A home would wipe out most of it. My mobility equipment alone takes up $20k odd.
Accessible van? There's another $50k.
Need other accessibility equipment? Add those expenses to the list.
Everything you own lowers how much you can actually have. And most people don't have the equipment we need.
Even then would take over 50 years to earn that $482500 if we can only earn an additional $178 per fortnight.
And that's *IF* you can save, because the majority of Disabled aussies cannot get NDIS, a lot of us get no supports and go without a lot of necessities.
"But the government isn't keeping anyone poor" huh?
They're certainly doing a good job of keeping Disabled folks poor. It's not like we have high costs of living or anything. Or that every piece of equipment can run us the risk of losing everything.
