Why the corporate decisions of BigHit Labels are to blame for GOING SEVENTEEN’s new timeslot and why this is A Problem, a thread:
1/ For non-carats/cubics who may be reading this, GOING SEVENTEEN (GoSe) is a segment on Seventeen’s channel that has aired every Monday at 10:10PM KST since its inception in 2017. They chose Monday to give strength to carats for the entire week, and 10:10 is because of Hoshi.
2/ Now, BHL is trying to streamline the schedules. To Do on Mon, Run on Tues, GoSe on Wed, Memoria on Fri, and the other days will likely be filled by other BHL artists in the future. Sounds okay in theory because they’re just moving their time slot, not changing the content.
3/ Besides, it also makes sense to have a neat schedule for BHL artists, right?

Er… in this particular case, not really.
4/ After GoSe changed its format from vlogs to variety, they garnered enough attention from the gp, so much so that SVT actually formed a second fandom: Cubics. They aren’t Carats and most of them don’t follow SVT’s sns; all they know is that GoSe airs every Monday at 10:10.
5/ What does this change mean for GoSe’s future?

There will be a possible dip in viewership, given how many people have associated GoSe with Mondays and 10:10. They’d have to advertise the new time slot to make sure that non-Carats know when to tune in starting March,
6/ and advertising means having to spend money that could have been used for future episodes instead. If they don’t advertise, they’re definitely going to lose viewers. They’ll eventually recover their viewership once people have adjusted to the new time,
7/ but it’s a bump in the road that could have been avoided if they let SVT keep their original slot. More than “tradition” or “Monday at 10:10 holds sentimental value to Carats”, this new time slot affects SVT’s viewership and branding.
8/ What people also tend to overlook is that BH owns 85% of Pledis and being a majority shareholder means that they can push their corporate decisions onto Pledis and its artists. For comparison, look at Disney pulling out their Marvel Netflix series because of Disney+ streaming.
9/ Marvel Studios is technically an independent, but Disney’s corporate decisions will still affect how they run things because they own Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios discontinuing their partnership with Netflix affects both Marvel and Netflix negatively, but Disney wins.
10/ While GoSe’s financial stakes aren’t as high, the scenario is still similar. At the end of the day, the parent company has a ton of say with their subsidiaries’ operations. This is more than just GoSe; this also affects other aspects of SVT’s career,
11/ which is why Carats are rightfully mad, and which is why Carats won’t shut up.
Ok this is lowkey doing numbers so just in case anyone tries to come for my credentials: I don't have a business degree. What I do have is experience with company restructuring/acquisitions and the things I've seen firsthand closely mirror SVT's current scenario. 🙂
My personal experience backs up all the theoretical stuff explained here. https://twitter.com/cheolbbyuwu/status/1351422057519538176?s=19
