the origins and harmfuless of the f slur
content warnings //

- f slur (duh)
- homoph/bia mentions
- k/lling of lgbt
- transph/bia
// note

the f slur is one of the most harmful words in the history of the lgbt community. although i am able to reclaim it, i will not be saying it and will only refer to it as "the f slur" since it is so harmful.
// background

back in the day the lgbt community was heavily targetted and despised by many. people would hunt gay men down in the streets, roll them into carpets, and b/rn them alive in the streets without punishment.
back during this time there was also a word that was commonly used to refer to a bundle of sticks or a cigarette. this word is known today as the f slur.
// how do these connect?

well, when people were being b/rned in the street onlookers realized they looked similar to b/rning cigarettes or bundles of sticks (which were referred to using the f slur).
onlookers referred to the b/rning people as the f slur since they looked similar. from then on if a man was acting "too feminine" or liked feminine things (aka men) they would be referred to as an f slur.
// reclaiming the slur

"well, all of the lgbt community is h/rassed using the f slur today, so why cant everyone reclaim it?!"

well, yes you may have been harmed by this slur, that does not always mean that it is yours to reclaim.

let me explain...
someone calls you the r slur. you are neurotypical. the r slur was used primarily against the neurodivergent community.

although the word caused you harm, you can not reclaim it because it was not used against your community.
if we used the logic that "anyone called the r slur can reclaim it", then almost everyone would be saying it since, lets be honest, children are really mean in elementary school and dont know better yet and many people STILL DONT KNOW ITS A SLUR!!
// who can reclaim the f slur?

you can reclaim the f slur if you are...
- transfem
- mlm (this includes trans males who are attracted to men)
- enbylm
// conclusion

the f slur has caused many people harm, but we need to make sure we are educated before we try to reclaim something that isnt ours to reclaim.

stay safe and take care!
