Is anyone else getting a bit frustrated with how history is just switching all the words around now
(from @nuclearteeth’s ‘A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’)
Don’t get me wrong, the book is *excellent*, but reading it at one in the morning half asleep is a recipe for catching yourself drifting over ‘Capitol mob fasces riot’ and forgetting whether it’s the news or not
Granted this is about the Gracchi, who were cool, but still... 😬
This bit’s long but I want to post all of it because it’s so well said
every so often it just hits you with something like this and it’s excellent and very bleak
conversely - and I apologise for the jarring shift in tone but I’m trying not to post the whole book - I love when my history is written by posters. please come on trashfuture
this is very stark but frankly I would just say ‘the United States of America’
sorry miss I can’t help it miss
was Rome real or just an extended joke by historians
werq
I would like dearly to be friends with the author
