It’s true that Medicare for All needs its own @sunrisemvmt How can we get there? Some thoughts! 1/ ? https://twitter.com/newrepublic/status/1351280861925289986
First - we need to acknowledge that the and rank-and-file members of Sunrise are overwhelmingly high school kids! College too but I especially want to highlight the fact that teenagers who cannot vote are doing so much of the work here
The leadership of Sunrise is barely out of college themselves - and members age out at 35! Even @evanweber is only 26 (i think !). It’s truly a movement that belongs to a generation, and I love that. Youth is VALUED. Old, dangerous ideas are the liability.
We’ve underestimated young people for years. The Kids have always been better than alright: they are leaders, creators, and the best BS detectors out there.
Today, they are also *extremely online*

As the #Markeyverse led by @edsreplyguys and @students4markey proved, they can get things done. Young people stood behind @edmarkey because he co-wrote the GND. Because he demanded Medicare for All. Because makes so much sense! As Ed says, it’s the age of your ideas that matters.
But, back to Medicare for All. Unfortunately, the healthcare system in this country is so vile and Byzantine that it’s actually kind of hard to see how messed up it is until you’re living in it and paying for it - for many Americans, that’s at age 26.
If they are privileged enough to have insurance through a parent, many young people won’t learn how much a high deductible “benefits” “plan” resembles highway robbery until their mid 20s. This has insulated the Insurance Cos from the righteous anger of kids.
