Every MLK Day, Israeli apartheidists dredge up quotes from a man who died one year after the Six Day War and never lived to see Israel deny Palestinians equality for over half-a-century. Had he lived, he may likely have supported BDS and been aghast at efforts to outlaw it. https://twitter.com/IDF/status/1351198237240283141
The positions of and response to Mandela are instructive here
MLK never lived to see Meir Kahane become a Member of Knesset, nor the Bat Ayin underground try to bomb a madrassa, nor the killing of Rachel Corrie and the razing of Rafah. He didn't see the Mavi Marmara raided at sea, nor the separation wall go up, nor Netanyahu hugging Nazis.
If you have any knowledge of the man, his views, and his legacy, and any personal honesty, you would recognize he might have had some thoughts about those things and consider whether they might have given him reason to temper his emphatic support for Israel.
If you think he would have silently stood by while Israel caged tens of thousands of asylum seekers fleeing genocide and forced conscription from across Africa, and then forcibly repatriated them, you don't have any respect for him and should probably keep his name out your mouth
Somehow I don't think he would have looked at punitive house demolitions and "starvation diets" and said, "Israel's security is sacrosanct and they gotta do what they gotta do"
I don't think he would have looked at Israel's alliance with and nuclear collaboration with apartheid South Africa and said, "Criticizing Israel is antisemitism"
You're just dragging his name through the mud at this point to license things he'd have never countenanced
This is like the tiniest list of fucked up things that have happened in my lifetime. There's also the Gaza blockade and bombings. The Jenin Massacre. Sabra and Shatilla. The imprisonment of Ahed Tamimi. The kidnapping and killing of Muhammed Abu Khdeir... https://twitter.com/JewishWorker/status/1351308683372879875?s=20
The Zion Square lynching. The Shfaram massacre. The Hebron massacre. The Dawabashe killing. And on and on it goes.
He never saw any of it, still you quote him like you're the same Israel he knew.
