1/ With humility,
speaking now just to other white nurse educators (like me!)
We're on the cusp of a new semester
Still living through
A pandemic
white insurrectionist coup
& unprecedented moral injury

So in the interests of holding myself
& each other accountable,
a thread-->
3/ What are some of the ways this manifests that we (white nurse educators - like me!) can DO something about, starting today?

Well for starters, we have exclusionary & harmful policies grounded in white feminism that NEED TO GO, like dress codes: https://hechingerreport.org/dress-codes-are-the-new-whites-only-signs/
5/ And it goes without saying that white nurse educators (like me!) should listen to & believe what students, staff, community & faculty colleagues tell us about how racism manifests in our institutions, & not stop there but actually cede power & control: https://twitter.com/Dr_Whomever/status/1328789884023214080?s=20
10/ And then we saw the fall out
of the white insurrectionist coup at the Capitol building
where white-dominated professional organizations
institutions
educators
pointed to D.C.
in distress
at "those bad people"
who caused the problem
without interrogating
our own
violence
11/ Not to mention
the notable absence
of knowledge or competencies
related to
dismantling racism
& white domination
on board exams
that control our
nursing curricula
like NCLEX
& in some cases
reinforce
our violence
13/ I guess what I'm saying is
I have a lot of learning & UNLEARNING to do
And I need to be held accountable

and so given what today is
rather than share a quotation
(cause his words don't belong to me)
I'm asking:

Please hold me
accountable
& let's work
URGENTLY
to transform
