/ #homeschooling . We get in from work and we’re greeted with tears and stress from little ones, struggling to understand today’s lesson, or is it the insecurity from the change of routine? Either way, they need us parents and we do whatever we can for them.
/ we may not have a clue what a fronted adverbial is, or how to explain how X = 2y, but we are there and doing our best, be it for moral support, drying tears or messaging teachers to explain the issues.
/ The ones that aren’t there though are the ones that can’t be. The ones who care the most, who understand the problems. The parent teachers.
/ I see my wife come home from school, firstly answering emails from parents - some not so nice, about lack of support, not allowing non essential workers children in ...... some having breakdowns themselves as they’re finding it so hard to explain to their little ones
/ some thankful for everything the staff are doing. Then the work really begins. Planning lessons, reacting to the issues highlighted in earlier emails. Making videos to try to help explain to children. Not one video, many, all explaining the same thing
/ but each one slightly different to meet the individual child’s needs, understanding, worries. Before you know it it’s 11/12pm. Our children are in bed.
/ the impossible task of juggling family life and lockdown teaching. When everyone wants everything for their own child, but teachers find it impossible to be there for their own children.
/ it’s a job, and like many, everyone is working out of the ordinary. But please, remember that teachers are often putting their families, their children to@one side to ensure your children are getting the best education possible in these strange times
/ so please be kind, and when “normality” returns, your child may not have made as much progress as previous years, but it’s not because of the lack of commitment and dedication of our teachers. They have done so so much more than we can all see! Thank you
