Meghan McCain discussing MLK is rather odd. Since she loves making sure that we know who her father is, a little history.

In 1983: John McCain voted against a holiday celebrating Dr. King's birthday. Bill passed 338-90, McCain's justification:

"presidents were not recognized,"
McCain also said the MLK holiday would "cost too much money". He backed Governor Mecham's decision to repeal the holiday.
For context, Mecham used the word "pickaninny" to describe Black kids in his book.

″As I was a boy growing up, blacks themselves referred to their children as pickaninnies. That was never intended to be an ethnic slur with anybody.″
Meghan McCain will tie herself to her father's legacy at all costs, why not this?
My father was a good man, but he was flawed. Never once, since he died, have I ever tried to lionize him. His failings as well as his strengths helped to make him the man he was.
