For my sociology class, we had to go to the newly opened Museum of Tolerance in LA and do a report based on their Martin Luther King Jr. exhibit. 1/
It was a pretty impressive multimedia exhibit with a series of installations. A deep dive into King's work and the focus of it, the thing that left a deep impression on me, was the WORK he did. It presented his famous speeches and letters in context. 2/
So you saw not just the things that made him famous, but the things that led up to them.

I was a kid and King had always been presented as this titanic figure. Almost mythological. But this presentation showed him as a person, like you or me. 3/
It showed how hard he worked. It showed that conviction and hard work could affect change. That he inspired people, built a coalition, through hard, hard work and effort coupled with a deep moral conviction and what seemed to me like a lot of compassion. 4/
He didn't work miracles, he just worked hard and changed the world.

Anyway, it changed me, and stuck with me. It still inspires me. MLK Jr. day is an official MCDM holiday.
