A while ago, suburban twitter was pearl clutching that there are people who swim instead of bathing / showering every day.

Suburban twitter needs a dose of rural twitter reality.

We don't have a borehole and were "buying" water from our neighbours. Borehole has now run dry. We're both a bit fucked.

I have the cash to sink a borehole (minimum R150k) bit there are no guarantees that we will hot water.

We truck in water from the dam and use that for livestock and irrigation. Rain tanks serve for washing clothes, dishes etc. I buy bottled water for consumption.

I love me a nice bath or hit shower but the cost isn't just commercial. Every drop counts.

We try to shower at the gym, where possible, and we share bathwater and then use it to water gardens.

So, honestly, if I've spent time in the pool, excuse me if I don't then go and run MORE water to wash myself!

Suburban twitter needs to consider that this country is in the midst of a water crisis.

We currently capture rain water off the roofs of two residences. I'm getting another rain tank tomorrow for a third residence.

I'm a good storm, we can capture 7000 litres of water.

Rain water needs to be purified for consumption but can be used for washing clothes, dishes, hydrating animals and watering plants.

By the end of this month I will have 3 5000 litre drums.

But what about winter?

It will cost me R5000 to truck in 15000 litres of potable water.

What I need to secure is a source of non-potable water from the dam.

So excuse me if I don't pearl clutch at the thought of people going to bed without bathing, when they've spent the day in the pool.

I'm more concerned with people going to bed without WATER.
