Trialled breakout rooms earlier for the much missed 'turn and talk' moments. Really crucial that students are given really clear instructions on how to start- 'say hello and then the person who's name begins first alphabetically begins the discussion'. I assigned rooms randomly
which worked for a class who know each other well- I decided on groups of 3, as thought groups of 2 would be too intimate. Dropping into each room, and students knowing I would do this, helped generate rich discussion. Students also prepared to feedback afterwards in cold call.
I suggest turning notifications off as students without microphones typed their contributions- my Teams didn't cope and crashed after! I asked for students thoughts on breakout rooms afterwards- overwhelmingly positive both for social aspect and developing ideas. Will use again!
