Extracts by writers of colour for remote learning
As we launch into the world of virtual classrooms and lessons again I am reminded of how difficult it can be to make remote learning collaborative, full of discussion and engaging.

This thread includes 4 extracts from 4 amazing writers, each with a question loosely focused around one of the skills needed for the English Language GCSE. But how do we open up a discussion around texts when we can’t be in the classroom?
There are many options available to you, for example:
* If your school uses a Google account you can use Jamboard which is essentially a virtual whiteboard where all students can write and participate at the same time!
* If your school uses a Google account you can use Jamboard which is essentially a virtual whiteboard where all students can write and participate at the same time!
* Use Miro (it’s free!) where you can use many different layouts depending on the type of discussion you want to have and students can add and move around virtual post-it notes.
* Set up a live lesson (Google Meets, Zoom etc), open up a collaborative document or simply show the extract and have a discussion via the chat/hands up function about the extract.
* Students can virtually work together to make presentations on the extract you have given them (or you could give each group a different extract with the same question). I love Prezi for this (it’s also free!)
