tbh this was very nearly a 30 years of Dinosaur Jr’s Green Mind appreciation session, but I felt what we really needed this evening was a bit of boogie. Anyway. HIYA.
I'm having gin. On a Monday! CHEERS
Soft Cell – Memorabilia (Non-stop Ecstatic Dancing mix)

I’ve started most of my DJ sets with this (depending on vibe or occasion) it was also the first number that @juderogers and I’s super DJ duo Wadey & The Lady played out.
Donna Summer – Working the Midnight Shift

Once Upon A Time is a masterpiece of an album. The entire thing charted as one entry at No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Disco chart in 1977. Amazing.
Passengers – Hot Leather

There’s little info about Passengers, but this was released in 1981 on the San Francisco-based Moby Dick records and frankly they had me at that. I found it for a pound in a Brighton junk shop. I think Moby remixed it, but don’t let that put you off.
Terr – Tale of Devotion

Terr is a Brazilian-born, Berlin-based artist. This came out on Phantasy a couple of years ago and is one of the best singles of recent times. The Prins Thomas mix is *chef’s kiss*
George McCrae – I Can’t Leave You Alone

This was the follow-up to Rock Your Baby, and is proper big-sister boogie. Also, this fantastic clip is the disco/sheep crossover that we all should hail.
Capricorn – I Need Love

Italo disco was basically a handful of people bunging out numbers under a host of aliases. This is Claudio Simonetti who was also in prog-spookers/ horror soundtrackers Goblin, but also put out tunes such as Easy Going’s Baby I Love You too. INTENSE.
Roxy Music – Editions of You

You can’t fuck around with Roxy Music, frankly. I could have selected anything, but this edges it because of this performance
Although Bryan Ferry's arse is tremendous in this too
“Sometimes you find a yearning for the quiet life
The country air and all its joys
But badgers couldn't compensate at twice the price
For just another night with the boys oh yeah
And boys will be boys, will be boys”

There aren’t enough songs about badgers
The Juan Maclean – Happy House

Facebook once thought I was Juan Maclean (lol) but that’s algorithms for you. The full-length of this goes on a bit, but sometimes a hasty edit does the job.
Stargo – Capsicum

I discovered this, as one does with a lot of fantastic things in life, via Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant discussing Italo Disco around the time of Paninaro.
"Often the lyrics are very banal, there's this great one called Capsicum and the chorus goes "Capsi-capsicum oh woah oh". That is brilliant. The banality of them often makes them strangely moving, somehow. I don't think a lot of people will appreciate things like this."
I tried to find it in a quite serious Berlin record shop a couple of years ago and the owner looked at me like I was asking for Black Lace.
(goes on a bit but I need a wee)
Adriano Celentano – Prisencolinensinanciusol

First heard this up Camden Market yeeeeears ago, and it’s become one of those songs that blows people away each time they hear it. Also worth it for this incredible clip
Låpsley – Operator (DJ Koze’s Disco Edit)

This should’ve been massive when it was reswizzled and released in 2016, but as with most things that year, the British public were not to be trusted (ahem). It makes me want to throw shapes at @Duckielondon with my fella and mates.
Alexander Robotnick - Problèmes D'Amour

More Italian action. Robotnick was a jazz cabaret guitarist who got into electronic music with this in 1983. A varied career followed but he’s returned to electronic stuff and since started DJing mainly due to the success of this toe-tap.
The League Unlimited Orchestra – Hard Times

Barely an hour passes each day without thinking about how amazing The Human League are, and I’d be letting everyone down if I didn’t slip at least something by them into this playlist.
Sisters of Mercy – Lucretia My Reflection

I believe that Andrew Eldritch was behind London Boys. No, come back! Basically after Floodland he wanted to get poppier and invented the rubberiest men in pop as an outlet but had them killed when they got too big. IT’S A THEORY, YEAH?
Anywho, big love to @londonconcrete
Candi Staton – I’d Rather Be an Old Man’s Sweetheart (Than a Young Man’s Fool)

Years ago, I did the PR on a compilation of Candi’s Fame-era Memphis stuff for Honest Jons and got to meet her. What a woman. Get yourself this compilation. It's a snip on discogs *pats bum ASDA-ly*
Idrissa Soumaoro – Nissodia (Mike D Remix)

Idrissa is a big deal in Mali: learned his trade with Salif Keita, helped to invent Amadou and Mariam, and he teaches music to blind and disabled kids. He’s been knighted there too. This Mike D mix came out on Mr Bongo last year.
